Symptoms of High Blood Pressure
That is the scary part. There actually aren't any real symptoms of high blood pressure that people notice. That's why it is called "the silent killer." High blood pressure can sneak up on you, and you might never know you have it until you have a heart attack, heart failure, or a stroke.
Most of the time people don't have any symptoms at all, but when they do have symptoms, the symptoms are so nonspecific that they rarely seek medical help. They might have a headache…you can have a headache for a lot of reasons other than having high blood pressure, and most people just put a headache down to eyestrain or the daily stress of life in general. They take an aspirin and move on.
Dizziness can also be a symptom of high blood pressure that doesn't happen very often, but when it does happen, it is generally ignored. We all get a little dizzy occasionally, and we can find dozens of reasons. We just got up too fast or we haven't eaten in a while.
Nausea can also be a rare symptom on high blood pressure that people tend to ignore. We might feel a bit nauseous, but we think it was something we ate that didn't agree or a "touch of the stomach flu." We pass it off as nothing of importance.
I am not suggesting that if you have a headache or feel dizzy or nauseous, you have high blood pressure. Those symptoms are simply too vague to indicate any problem. The best way to be sure that your blood pressure reading is in the normal range is to have your blood pressure tested on a regular basis. Don't let "the silent killer" get you.
